Oil versus balm versus water
Cleansing oils in 150-200 ml bottles run 12,000-25,000 KRW and are the cheapest per use. Balms in 80-100 g jars cost 15,000-30,000 KRW, travel far better and cannot leak. Cleansing water is the weakest at removing sunscreen and is mostly a convenience product.
Emulsification matters more than the oil base
The point of a cleansing oil is that it turns milky with water and rinses clean. Poorly emulsifying formulas leave a film that causes the breakouts people blame on the oil itself. Korean product pages usually show the emulsification step in the demo photos, which is a useful signal.
Shipping considerations
Cleansing oil is the single most common leak in a K-beauty box. Pump bottles should be taped and bagged. If you are ordering in summer or shipping to a hot climate, a balm is the safer choice since it stays solid up to fairly high temperatures.
Cost per use
A 200 ml oil lasts roughly 60-70 washes at two pumps each, which works out to about 20-30 cents per cleanse at Korean prices. The equivalent US product typically runs 60 cents to $1 per cleanse.
