The tradeoffs between Korea's big open marketplaces and buying from a brand's own site.
Price and promotion differences
Open marketplaces usually list lower headline prices and layer on platform coupons and card promotions that can take another 5 to 15 percent off. Brand stores run fewer discounts but offer membership points, sample bundles and early access to new releases. For a first purchase of an expensive item, the marketplace usually wins on price by a meaningful margin.
Who the seller actually is
On an open marketplace the seller may be the brand, an authorized distributor, or an unrelated reseller with stock of unknown provenance. The listing does not always make this obvious. For cosmetics and anything with an expiry date, or for products where counterfeits circulate, this matters considerably more than a 10 percent price difference.
What each does when something is wrong
Brand stores handle defects and exchanges directly, usually well, but only within Korea. Marketplaces mediate disputes between buyer and seller through a platform process, which is effective domestically and slow at best when the buyer is overseas. In practice, neither route offers a workable international return, so inspection before the box leaves Korea is the real protection.
When each is the right choice
Marketplace for commodity goods, well-known packaged products and price-driven purchases. Brand store for new releases, limited editions, anything where authenticity is a real question, and anything where you want the membership benefits. For large orders, the brand store's bundled samples can be worth more than the marketplace discount. A reasonable default is buying commodity restocks wherever is cheapest and buying anything you would be upset to receive damaged or fake from the brand directly.

Some operate a separate global site with higher prices and a narrower catalog. The domestic site is generally cheaper and better stocked, which is why buyers go through a Korean address.
Ask at the inspection step before shipping. Marketplace sellers occasionally move near-expiry stock, and a manufacture date printed on the package is checkable in Korea but not from your living room.
