Korea has one of the most active custom keyboard scenes anywhere. Here is how to buy into it from the US.
Group buys and how they work
Korean group buys open for a fixed window, collect payment up front, and deliver months later. Cases run 250,000-700,000 KRW and keycap sets 80,000-200,000 KRW. Most collect payment by Korean bank transfer through a domestic platform, which is the barrier for overseas buyers.
Korean keycap layouts
Korean keycap sets include Hangul sublegends and a layout with different bottom-row sizing than the standard US ANSI arrangement, particularly around the right side of the spacebar. Check the kit contents image for the specific sizes your board needs before committing to a set.
Weight and packing
An aluminum case weighs 1.5-3 kg and needs proper packing, since anodized aluminum scratches easily and corner dings are permanent. Keycap sets are 400-800 g. A built board should be shipped with the switches and plate secured, or ideally disassembled.
Secondhand access
The Korean secondhand keyboard market is deep and prices for sold-out group buy items are often below what the same item fetches on international markets. All of it is domestic-payment only, which is exactly the gap a buy-for-me service fills.
