A third-party seller listing on a platform that handles payment and dispute resolution but does not stock the goods. Sourcing varies: authorized distributors, gray-market importers, and resellers clearing stock. Prices typically run 5-20% below the brand store, and occasionally far below, which is itself informative.
What the brand store gives you
Guaranteed authentic stock, current production dates, official warranty registration where applicable, and access to brand promotions and gift-with-purchase events that third-party sellers cannot offer. For cosmetics, the manufacture date difference alone can be worth the premium.
When to use each
Brand store for cosmetics, electronics with a warranty, and anything where authenticity is a question. Open marketplace for household goods, stationery, food and anything where the product is commoditized and a counterfeit makes no economic sense.
