Case pricing versus single units
A standard instant noodle multipack of five runs 3,500-5,500 KRW in Korea. A carton of thirty or forty runs 20,000-32,000 KRW, roughly 15-25% below the multipack rate. Snacks show a similar gap. The saving on goods is real but modest, so the case decision is driven by freight efficiency, not item price. Korean retailers also run regular promotions where a carton drops another 10-20%, and the difference between a promotional and non-promotional week is worth waiting for.
The weight reality
A forty-pack noodle carton weighs 5-6 kg and is mostly air by volume, which means volumetric weight often bills higher than actual. Removing the carton and packing pouches tightly can cut billable weight by a third, which is worth more than the case discount itself. Noodle blocks are also fragile once out of the carton, so tight packing matters both for volume and for arriving with intact noodles rather than crumbs.
Snacks are worse by volume
Korean snack bags are nitrogen filled and enormous relative to their contents. A bag weighing 80 g can occupy the volume of a kilogram. Some warehouses will not depressurize bags because it damages the product, so plan on paying for the air or choosing box-packed snacks instead. A reasonable compromise is buying box-packed biscuits and candies rather than bagged snacks, which have a far better weight-to-volume profile.

Case quantities magnify the risk. Confirm the specific variety has no beef or pork content before ordering thirty units of it, because a restricted carton is a total loss rather than a partial one. Sauce sachets included with noodles also occasionally contain meat extract even when the noodle itself does not, which is worth checking on the ingredient panel. Buying two smaller cartons of different varieties also limits the damage if one turns out to be restricted.
