What counts as a standalone photobook
Solo concept books, travel and behind-the-scenes photobooks, anniversary artbooks and DVD-bundled concert books. Typical pricing is 45,000-90,000 KRW, roughly $33-66, and they run 800 g to 2 kg each. Print runs are limited and second editions are rare. Many also ship with a slipcase or outer box, which adds a further 200-400 g and needs to be accounted for when estimating your shipment weight.
Why they are almost never restocked
These are marketing products with a fixed print run rather than catalog items. Once sold out the only source is the Korean secondhand market, where sealed copies of popular releases regularly trade at two to four times original price. Reprints, when they happen, usually omit the original photocard set or use different paper stock, which is why collectors specify first edition on the secondary market.
Packing requirements
A hardcover photobook needs corner protection and a rigid box, not a padded mailer. The most common damage is corner crushing at the box edge, which destroys collector value even though the book is functionally fine. Specify rigid packing explicitly at the warehouse stage. Shrink wrap should also be left intact, since a sealed photobook holds substantially more value than an opened one in identical physical condition.
Weight versus value math
At 1.5 kg a single photobook can carry $25-35 of air freight on its own. Combining it with light items in the same box spreads that cost, which is why photobook buyers should never ship a single item alone. Two photobooks plus a set of albums in one box spreads that freight across items that individually would each carry a minimum charge.
