Gmarket Global vs Korean Gmarket: Which Version You Are Actually On

· ppasong

Gmarket runs an English international site alongside its Korean one, with different sellers and prices. Here is how to tell them apart.

How to identify which site you are on

The global site displays prices in USD and lists international shipping on every product page. The Korean site prices in won and shows domestic courier options. If you arrived via a search result and the currency is USD, you are on the export catalog regardless of how the page looks. Some search results mix both versions depending on how you arrived, so checking the currency symbol before comparing prices is a habit worth forming early.

Seller participation differs

Only sellers who opt into international shipping appear globally, and they set separate export prices. Many of the cheapest Korean sellers, especially small operators moving volume domestically, never opt in. That is where the price gap comes from, not from Gmarket itself. Export sellers also list narrower option ranges, so a color or size available domestically may simply not appear as a selectable option on the international listing.

Shipping cost structure

Global orders quote per-seller international shipping, so a three-seller basket generates three separate shipping charges. This is the single biggest cost trap on the site and the reason a consolidated domestic order usually wins above two items. Two items from two sellers can therefore cost more in shipping on the global site than the entire consolidated route would, which is the calculation most first-time buyers skip.

Coupon behavior

Gmarket issues sitewide discount coupons frequently on the Korean side, often 5-15% with a basket minimum, and these do not carry to the global catalog. Smart card promotions likewise apply only to Korean-issued cards. Gmarket also runs a large overseas-purchase section reselling foreign goods into Korea, which is unrelated to exporting and is a common source of confusion when searching.

Not on the global site, where each seller ships separately. Domestically, all sellers can deliver to one warehouse address for a single outbound box.

Auction shares ownership with Gmarket and behaves similarly, with an even smaller international catalog.
