Why the sales counter status matters
Album purchases at YES24 are reported to Korean chart aggregators during the tracking window. Buying the same album from a general marketplace often does not count. If chart contribution is part of why you are buying, the store you use is not interchangeable. Chart tracking windows are usually the first week after release, and purchases outside that window still count as sales but not toward the first-week figure fans care about.
Store-exclusive pre-order gifts
Each major retailer negotiates its own pre-order benefit, typically an exclusive photocard, poster or bookmark. YES24 benefits differ from Ktown4u and Aladin benefits for the same release. Collectors chasing a specific card need to buy from the specific store that offers it, which is the whole reason multi-store orders exist. Korean textbooks, art books and translated editions cost 12,000-30,000 KRW, a fraction of what specialty importers charge in the US. Books are heavy at roughly 400-700 g each, so budget weight accordingly. The site also runs a used book marketplace alongside the new catalog, and out-of-print Korean titles frequently appear there at half the original cover price.
Account creation friction
Signup asks for Korean phone verification for full account features, and the checkout defaults to domestic payment methods. The order itself is straightforward once past those two gates, which is why most overseas buyers use an established Korean account.
