Import licensing in the US
Beyond the carrier, importing alcohol into the US involves federal and state requirements including licensing, and individual states set their own rules on direct shipment to consumers. Personal importation of alcohol by mail is not a simple matter of paying duty, and the rules vary considerably by state.
Makgeolli has an extra problem
Unpasteurized makgeolli continues fermenting in the bottle, builds pressure and can burst. Even setting aside the legal issues, it is physically unsuited to a warm cargo hold and a week in transit. Pasteurized versions are more stable but face the same restrictions.
What you can do instead
Traveler allowances for personal alcohol carried in checked luggage are a separate framework with their own limits, and Korean liquors are increasingly available through US importers. Both routes exist; parcel shipping is the one that does not.
