Korean Fishing and Camping Gear: What Is Worth the Freight
· ppasong
Korea's outdoor market has distinctive gear, but bulk and fuel restrictions shape what you can actually get.
The bulk problem
Tents, chairs and tables are the definition of volumetric freight. A four-person Korean tent packs to roughly 70 by 30 by 30 cm and bills at 12-15 kg volumetric regardless of its 6 kg actual weight. Unless the specific model is unavailable in the US, large camping gear is rarely worth importing.
What ships efficiently
Titanium cookware, compact stoves without fuel, folding utensils, lanterns and small hardware. Korean titanium camp cookware runs 40,000-120,000 KRW and weighs 100-300 g per piece, which is exactly the ratio you want. Fishing tackle, lures and reel parts are similarly dense and light.
Fuel and pressurized items
Gas canisters, liquid fuel and any pressurized cartridge are prohibited on air freight without exception. Buy the stove in Korea and the fuel in the US. Some carriers also restrict stoves that have been used, since fuel residue is a hazard, so buy new.
Fishing rods and length limits
Rods over roughly 100 cm packed length attract oversize handling and higher rates on most parcel services. Multi-piece travel rods that break down under 70 cm avoid this entirely and are a common Korean product format.

Frequently asked
New, unused stoves without fuel are generally acceptable. Fuel canisters never are, and used stoves are sometimes refused.
Comparable at the mid-range. The reason to import is design and models that have no US distribution.
Most services apply oversize surcharges beyond a length threshold. Multi-piece gear that packs short avoids it.
