Why fresh is off the table

The shelf-stable slice that works

These are exactly the items that never reach US Korean grocers, and they are all legally importable as shelf-stable processed foods. Small-producer sauces and pastes in 300-500 g jars run 8,000-20,000 KRW and represent the clearest reason to shop Kurly rather than a general marketplace.
Price positioning
Kurly runs 20-40% above standard Korean supermarket pricing because it curates for small producers and quality. On items that have no US equivalent that premium is worth paying. On mainstream brands it is not, and Coupang is cheaper. Kurly also runs first-order promotions for new accounts, typically a heavily discounted starter bundle, which is a reasonable way to test the catalog before committing to a larger basket.
Packaging waste to strip
Kurly ships in insulated boxes with ice packs even for ambient items in mixed orders. Those add several kilograms of dead weight. Repacking at a Korean warehouse before the international leg is essential, not optional. Ice packs alone can add 1-2 kg to a mixed order, which at air freight rates is real money spent shipping frozen water across the Pacific.
