What is worth sourcing
Hangul learning charts and workbooks, traditional craft kits such as paper folding and knot work, children's picture books, traditional game sets, and classroom decoration materials. Prices are startlingly low by US standards: a craft kit that would be 15 to 25 USD from a US cultural supplier is often 3,000 to 8,000 KRW in Korea.
Buying for thirty students
Craft kits and consumables ordered in class quantity are where the economics really work. Thirty simple kits at 4,000 KRW each is about 90 USD of goods, weighing perhaps 4 to 6 kg, so roughly 45 to 70 USD of shipping. The landed cost per student stays under 6 USD, which no US supplier will match.
Language and grade level
Korean educational materials are graded for Korean-speaking children, so a book labeled for age six assumes native fluency. For US learners, materials aimed at younger ages or at Korean-as-a-foreign-language learners are the right target. Publishers producing for overseas Korean schools are a specific and useful category to look for. Bilingual editions produced for overseas Korean schools are the closest thing to a purpose-built classroom resource, and they cost far less than US cultural suppliers charge for much thinner material.
Timing and school budgets
Allow six weeks from ordering to classroom, and remember that Korean school-year products refresh in February. Ordering in the spring also avoids the February release rush, when the popular kits sell through quickly and do not restock until April.
