Price difference on the same books
Major university-published Korean textbooks typically sell for 18,000 to 30,000 KRW in Korea, about 13 to 22 USD, against 40 to 70 USD for the imported edition in the US when it is available at all. Workbooks and audio-supported editions are frequently unavailable in the US entirely. A five-book order saves enough to cover the shipping several times over.
Choosing by level, honestly
Domestic editions are written for learners studying in Korea, often with instructions in Korean from the intermediate level upward. Beginner series with English support exist and are clearly labeled. Buying an intermediate domestic textbook because it looks impressive is the most common wasted purchase in this category. A useful test is opening the sample pages: if the grammar explanations are written in Korean, the book assumes you already have the level it claims to teach.
Graded readers and native material
Graded readers, children's chapter books and comics are where most learners get their reading practice, and they are cheap: 5,000 to 12,000 KRW per volume. Children's books aimed at Korean seven to nine year olds sit at a good level for an upper-beginner adult learner and are far more sustainable to read than a textbook.
Weight is the real constraint
Books are dense. A textbook with workbook runs 700 g to 1.2 kg, and a ten-book order easily reaches 8 kg, which is 70 to 95 USD of air shipping. This is one of the categories where buying a larger order less often, or considering slower economy service, genuinely changes the math.

Most current editions provide audio through a QR code or download rather than a bundled CD. Check that the audio is accessible from outside Korea, since a few publishers gate downloads behind a Korean site login.
Korean second-hand book shops sell recent editions at 40 to 60 percent off, often barely used. Check that no answer pages have been filled in if you want the workbook.
Prefer the current edition of a widely used university series over an older edition, since audio access and supplementary materials are usually tied to the current run.
