Searching Korean Shopping Sites: Keywords That Actually Work

· ppasong

Direct translation often returns nothing. Here is how Korean product search actually behaves.

Loanwords versus native words

Many product categories are written as Korean transliterations of English words rather than native Korean terms, and which one a seller uses varies by category. Searching both the transliterated form and the native Korean word returns different result sets. When one returns nothing, the other usually works.

How Korean listing titles are written

Sellers stuff titles with brand, model, category, and half a dozen attribute keywords separated by spaces, because search matches against that string. This means adding a descriptive word often narrows results usefully, while a natural-language phrase returns nothing at all.

Model numbers are the reliable route

For anything with a model number or an official product name, searching that string directly cuts through every naming inconsistency. Copying the exact product name from a brand's Korean site and pasting it into a marketplace search is the fastest path to the right listing.

Filters do the heavy lifting

Korean marketplaces have far more granular filters than most Western sites, including price bands, delivery speed, seller type and category-specific attributes. Searching broadly and then filtering usually beats trying to construct a precise search string.

Frequently asked

Sometimes, for international brands whose names sellers write in Latin script. For most domestic products, Korean text is required.

Copy it from the brand's own Korean page or from a Korean review of the product rather than translating from English.

Keyword-stuffed titles match loosely. Adding a distinguishing attribute word or using filters narrows it quickly.
